BLANDINE & PAUL VISIT

Wednesday, February 18th - Ash Wednesday

Blandine and her grandson, Paul, arrived Wednesday evening from Venice. They were slightly flustered because they had trouble remembering the name of our town, Sacile, when trying to get train tickets. Blandine kept pronouncing it, Suh-LEE-che, instead of Suh CHI lay. It was close!
She eventually got on a train headed in the right direction.

When she and Paul boarded the train, they still hadn't purchased the tickets. They thought they could by them after they got on. Boy, were they wrong! They conductor charged them almost 100 Euro for that mistake! (Tickets are normally 6 Euro/person)

Even though the trip had a rough start, they were happy to finally have arrived in SACILE!

I had a very American dinner waiting for them at home which consisted of: pulled pork on hawaiian bread rolls, and root beer floats! Yum! (Although, I don't think Paul liked it. Haha!)

Thursday, February 19th - Chinese New Year

Every Thursday, our town has a big market. I was so excited to share this with Blandine and Paul.

Carciofi are in season!

Paul and Blandine in the market.

We sat outside and grabbed some brunch. Paul snacked on patatine fritte from one of the market vendors. Blandine and I tried some yummy sweets from the cafe.
I bought way too much at the market! I bought loads of cheese, and artichoke lasagna. They made a delicious lunch, though!

That afternoon I went in search of a park that I had heard about near Polcenigo. We found it!

There were chickens, horses, donkeys, and cows all along our walk. When Paul would see a cow he would say, "Cowcowcow." He had me cracking up with the few words he spoke in English.

There were several different types of chickens around the park...

They were all segregated.

We found some funny signs along our walk. We decided to imitate. :)

Haha!

Next we drove up the mountain to Piancavallo.

We found a great place for Paul to get some energy out while sledding. Blandine and I watched and enjoyed some chocolata calda.

Paul had so much fun, that we came back the next day for 3.5 hours! He made friends with anyone and everyone around him even if they didn't speak his own language.

Saturday morning we took them to the airport. It was a quick trip, but so much fun!
